May 6, 2019
Dear Rowe Families,
This week, we will be conducting kindergarten screening for the children entering Rowefor the fall of 2019. We are excited to welcome this new group of children! We have been hoping the newly replenished tulip garden will bloom at some point this week. This was an exciting planting project for our first graders and 7th graders from HMS last fall.
Later in May and into the early part of June, we have a variety of exciting events planned such as: our coastal studies unit, including a touch tank and horseshoe crab study with a local presenter, a bicycle safety presentation, and annual school-wide trip to Crescent Beach. In addition, there will be the annual Book Fair and Ice Cream Social in conjunction with Royal River Books on Wednesday, June 5th in the Rowe School gym. The Step-Up Day for rising first and second graders to meet their new teachers will be held on Tuesday, June 18th. It is sure to be a productive and enjoyable end to the school year!
A special thanks
We want to thank everyone for your cooperation and support as we have worked through our new dismissal plan. Overall, it has gone smoothly and efficiently. There is a much easier flow of movement through the atrium for students and staff. Please remember to keep the brick wall to the left (as you face the building) clear. This is where we line the children up each day to connect with their family members or caregivers who are picking them up.
April Community meeting
The theme of our April meeting was earth day. It was hosted by three kindergarten classes. Matt Loosigian, a local children’s musician, came to perform as part of this celebration. A number of children knew Matt from Music With Children in Yarmouth. Here is a link to his website if you would like some information and to see his summer schedule of performances.
New playground equipment
In the fall, children had an opportunity to vote for one of two new pieces for our playground. As it turned out, there was enough money to purchase both and this was announced to the students just before April break. The children have been enjoying these new attractions. One is the Ten Spin and the other is a funnel ball. We want to send out a special thanks to our PTO for funding these two wonderful additions.
While the weather has warmed up a great deal, we are finding that the morning can still be quite chilly. Please be sure to send your child with a coat or sweatshirt. If the day warms up sufficiently, we will allow the children to leave their coats in their backpacks. We also ask that children wear sneakers or sandals with backs, rather than flip-flops, for safety on the playground. Thanks in advance for your help!
From the Nurse's Office: Lyme Disease Awareness Month
May is Lyme Disease Awareness month. The numbers of tick-borne illnesses in the Northeast have increased dramatically in the last 10 years. The Maine CDC would like to remind you that tick prevention is the best medicine, and to keep you and your family safe by following these four simple steps: 1) Wear protective clothing 2) Use an EPA approved repellent 3) Perform daily tick checks 4) Use caution in tick-infested areas. For more information, you can reference the Maine CDC here: Maine CDC tick information
