Dear HMS Families,

I hope this message finds you well, and you are enjoying this beautiful fall weather.  We are reaching out to share a quick update on upcoming assessments.

Students in grades 5 through 8 participate in the standardized NWEA-Measures of Academic Progress assessment (MAP) to gauge their academic growth in literacy and math from year to year. The MAP scores are only one source of information about our students’ progress. Daily work, classroom assessments, projects, classroom discussions, and conferencing provide a more complete picture.

This fall, the Maine Department of Education has selected the MAP assessment as the state’s MEA assessment for Mathematics and English/Language Arts/Literacy. Students will take the MAP assessment over the following two weeks based on the schedule below. We use the scores from the assessment internally. They provide specific evidence of growth and highlight any areas which indicate a need for support.
